Laughing at ourselves
World poverty is serious business. So, I love when great comedians can take us into the absurd with routines like this one by Ricky Gervais about donating a goat in Africa.

do you think anyone watches gervais and doesn't know it's comedy? we have to be able to laugh at ourselves, even when doing important work.

having purchased ducks, chickens and geese through the heifer project in the names of our grandchildren, i find not much humor in this. i think if he had mentioned the project at the end and then told the real story of the heifer project, it would have helped spread the word about an organization that is trying to help families throughout the world become productive, build their self esteem and become self-supporting.
